Awarded Double Spiral

The number of awards and recognitions for the Musée Atelier Audemars Piguet is already considerable, but the most recent honor has a special significance for our facade and structural engineers: During the award ceremony of the 17th Ernst & Sohn Engineering Construction Prize, the Audemars Piguet Museum was awarded a distinction by the jury. We are very pleased about this special recognition. The prize, awarded by the publishing house Ernst & Sohn, is the most important award for civil engineers in the German-speaking area. Its aim is to raise public awareness of outstanding engineering achievements in structural engineering and thus of the work of civil engineers and their commitment to building culture.

We are pleased to quote the unabridged jury statement at this point: “The museum convinced the jury in particular with its innovation in structural glass engineering as well as the high design quality and its implementation in detail. The idea of creating a separate identity for the exhibition and manufactory of the watch manufacturer is reflected in the architecture of the building. The geometry with counter-rotating circles simulates the balance of a clockwork.

In addition, the building’s transparent design with its green roof surfaces blends in exceptionally well with the surrounding landscape. This is achieved through the coherent engineering planning and realization.
The innovative supporting structure is unobtrusive and barely noticeable due to its bracing, curved glass elements. The floor-to-ceiling laminated glass takes over the complete vertical as well as horizontal load transfer and is at the same time part of the thermal envelope. The structural design was validated by extensive component tests and optimized by the knowledge gained.
The engineers succeeded excellently in merging the load-bearing structure and space-creating facade, thereby creating an aesthetically convincing identity.”

We are happy to share the joy of receiving this award with our project partners Audemars Piguet, BIG – Bjarke Ingels Group, CCHE, Frener & Reifer and Induni & Cie, who together with our facade and structural engineers ensured the realization of this highly complex building.
