Laying of the foundation stone for the Winterthur district complex

Admittedly, the white tablecloths looked like foreign bodies at the bottom of the large excavation pit. But festive adornment was befitting the solemn occasion: on 26 January, the foundation stone was laid for the new Winterthur district facility. Cantonal President Jacqueline Fehr, Head of the Directorate of Justice and Home Affairs, Construction Director Martin Neukom and architect Sarah Miebach laid the foundation stone themselves to symbolically start the structural work.
The conversion and expansion of the district facility will create a modern regional centre for law enforcement in the second largest region of the Canton of Zurich by 2025, which will unite under its roof premises of the youth and public prosecutor’s offices, the cantonal police and the remand prison.

An elongated, five-storey new building along the railway tracks complements the existing administrative building. The old building from 1964 will be completely renovated. The total cost of the construction project is estimated at 113.2 million Swiss francs.
