The opening booklet

An original publication accompanies the inauguration of the THF Tower in Berlin. The focus of the booklet “THF Tower – Opening of the Tempelhof Airport Building 2016 – 2023” is on the photographs taken by Andreas Tschersich – in terms of both design and content. The photographer accompanied the reconstruction of the important architectural monument over several years. The selected motifs intentionally do not show the splendor of the successful completion of the project. They rather expressively and authentically trace the path that the planners and executors had to travel during the complex preservation project.
The collected texts of the publication correspond in their own way with the photographs. Jutta Heim-Wenzler, managing director of Tempelhof Projekt GmbH, refers to the pioneering character of the project as the first building block of the Tempelhof Airport urban district. In the article “Architecture must be emotional!” architect Pat Tanner of :mlzd describes the design concepts of the unique and personally formative project.

Reto Furrer and Matthias Kunze (Lüchinger+Meyer) report on the carefulness and creativity that the conversion of the existing building demanded of the structural designers. An apt summary can be found in the text “Die Erinnerungswürdigkeit des Vorübergehenden” by architectural historian Christoph Schläppi: “Thus we hold in our hands the testimony of a process, against the background of which the result itself, with all its solved problems, beautifully prepared surfaces, constructive and spatial peculiarities, becomes comprehensible as an exhausted possibility and seized opportunity. If the images presented here help to make one feel a magic in this matter, perhaps even provoke a second look, the pact that the viewers have made with the author has borne fruit.”
