The Tilia Tower is growing fast

Ten months after the ground-breaking ceremony, the Tilia Tower© has risen from the ground. While the building shell has already reached the second floor, the teams were able to celebrate the laying of the foundation stone on the ground floor slab, which will be made available in future as a public square between the viaduct and the tower block. After our office won the competition with 3XN and Itten+Brechbühl three years ago, we are delighted to see the result of a fruitful collaboration with the Danish and Lausanne team of architects. Full of bold technical challenges, the Tilia Tower combines superlatives, both in terms of sustainability and modernity. Its base, made of recycled concrete and using Eco3 cement, supports a timber frame structure, the assembly of which will begin this summer.

Rapid completion is an important issue in any high-rise project. Tilia is designed like a puzzle made up of elements that fit together. There is no need to wait for the concrete to dry. The floors are stacked on top of each other with all their structural and façade components already integrated. None of this would be possible without state-of-the-art digital tools and the creation of prototypes of the parts, which confirm the tolerances during production and assembly. This ambitious project has left the well-trodden paths of construction behind and will soon reveal its constructive quality to the skies of Lausanne.
