From October 01, 2021 to March 31, 2022, the world exhibition EXPO 2020 Dubai took place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, under the theme “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future”. The Swiss pavilion for the world exhibition is designed as an element construction in the form of an incised cube with a side length of approx. 35m and a height of approx. 21m. It is mainly used as exhibition rooms, cafés, stores, roof terrace, lecture rooms, offices and technical rooms.

The building consists of a reinforced concrete structure in element construction. The core walls at the staircases, elevators and service risers serve as bracing. Along the facade line, concrete columns with rectangular profile are arranged at intervals of about 4m. These support both vertical and horizontal loads. Prefabricated beams made of concrete and steel are used for the long-span slabs, and the slab surfaces are constructed with concrete elements connected in a shear-resistant manner. The area of the sloping facades is planned with a substructure of steel. A storey-high truss made of steel spans above the incision. The facade consists of a textile skin, which is attached to a pre-stressed cable net.
The structure will be dismantled at the end of the exhibition and reused if possible, otherwise recycled.
