FEB autumn excursion

Since its foundation 17 years ago, SIA’s FEB specialist group for the conservation of buildings has seen itself as an interdisciplinary platform for architects, civil engineers and building service engineers who are involved in the conservation of buildings. FEB regularly organizes events and excursions to promote a practice-oriented exchange of experience and to contribute to the establishment of building conservation as an important and sustainable part of construction.
As a long-time member of the division, we are particularly pleased that this year’s FEB autumn excursion will target one of our current conservation projects. Participants can expect a tour of the spectacular construction work at the former Felix Platter-Spital in Basel.

The conversion of the structure into a building for community-oriented, age- and family-friendly living goes along with demanding structural engineering interventions and security procedures.
Alongside with Müller Sigrist Architekten and the building physicists from Durable Planung und Beratung, Simone Crepaz, the civil engineer responsible for the project, will describe the many challenges of structural design during the tour of the construction site, in particular the concepts implemented for the earthquake retrofit and the realization of the new entrance hall. We are looking forward to a lively interest!
