The world as guest in Dubai. After a one-year delay due to the pandemic, the world exhibition Expo 2020 starts today for the first time in an Arab country under the motto Connecting Minds, Creating the Future. 192 nations will be presenting themselves at this major event until 31 March 2022. As always, visitors can expect spectacular architecture in the different country and special pavilions and a great cultural diversity.
Switzerland is also among the exhibitors at Expo 2020. It was the first country to confirm its participation. In the Swiss pavilion “Reflections”, interactive elements and images allow visitors to discover important aspects of the country’s culture, natural beauties and innovations.
The name of the building says it all – the reflective front façade, which reflects the white cross on a red (carpet) ground, is both an original eye-catcher and an inviting gesture. The project was developed by the Zurich architecture office OOS in close collaboration with Bellprat Partner and Lorenz Eugster, supported by the structural and façade designers from Lüchinger+Meyer during the project planning and tendering phase. (In 2018, this innovative collaboration was awarded the Arc-Award BIM).
We followed the consistent implementation of the basic concept with interest from afar and are now pleased with the successful result.
