New regional airport for the Engadin

The infrastructure company “Regionalflughafen Samedan“ has invited to a study assignment to modernize and expand the existing airport. The aim of the modernization of the airport is an efficient and up-to-date operation and the fulfillment of the requirements for a non-Schengen customs airport.

The study of Hosoya Schaefer Architects and Blarer & Reber Architekten convinced an eleven-member jury. The jury praised the simplicity and flexibility of the project and its very careful and identity-forming structure.

The participating structural engineers and facade planners from Lüchinger+Meyer are also guided by the requirements of simplicity and economy. The design of the roof support structures of hangar and terminal provides wide-span filigree steel frameworks. For the company building, a reinforced concrete skeleton construction is proposed.
