The project involves the construction of two new four-story residential buildings, each with 7 apartments and underground parking, on Zurich’s Südstrasse. The two conceptually identical, compact building volumes with rhombic floor plans are inserted into the slope like pavilions, a circumferential ribbon window opens all living spaces to the garden.
The supporting structure is reinforced concrete with load-bearing flat slabs, walls, columns and parapets. The foundation of both residential buildings is made by single and strip foundations directly in the load-bearing moraine. Special challenges of the structural design were the complex geometric conditions, the structural implementation of the varying transitions between exposed concrete and wooden facades as well as the multi-sided inclined roof with fair faced concrete soffit.
