The Heimeli residential complex comprises three separate buildings arranged around a central underground car park. The double-skin external shell consists of an internal load-bearing masonry or concrete wall, an insulation layer made of extruded polystyrene and a fair-faced concrete façade, constructed in situ. The jointless in-situ concrete façade with its large window openings was sandblasted and painted after construction. The cantilevered balcony structures deserve a special mention. The balcony façade acts as a Vierendeel girder, transferring the vertical loads to the neighbouring side façades.
