The various functions of the Ilanz workshop are accommodated in an L-shaped building. The short wing of the building houses the administration offices and motor vehicle inspection unit. The long wing incorporates a works unit with garages and workshops. In the central courtyard there are silos for loading the maintenance vehicles with salt and grit and two open shelters. With the exception of the works unit, where wood was used, the primary load-bearing structure of the building is made of reinforced concrete. The shelter and supporting structure for the wooden silos are made of steel.
