The section of track between Meilen and Uetikon crosses a total of 11 roads, footpaths and streams. The solid structure bridges were showing signs of age. The increased loading due to the new double track and the modified alignment necessitated the reconstruction of all the bridge structures – with the exception of the underpass in Uetikon. The level crossing of the old rural road in Meilen was replaced by a convenient pedestrian underpass. Uetikon now has a modern S-Bahn transit station. A 320-metre-long platform alongside the station building and an equally long centre platform provide the public with easy access to the trains. A 70-metre-long roof has been constructed over the centre platform. A heated waiting room, seating and ticket machines improve the comfort of those using the station. The new, central pedestrian underpass provides access via stairs and ramps to the centre platform and is thus wheelchair and pushchair friendly.
These extensions were constructed on the initiative of the Uetikon and Männedorf local authorities.
