The ensemble of university buildings surrounds the central main building with associated lecture theatres, technology block, institute building, assembly hall, refectory and sports hall. The buildings were designed and constructed by the architects Förderer, Otto and Zwimpfer between 1960 and 1963.

The main focus of the project was the restoration of the fair-faced concrete surfaces, covering a total area of approximately 6,000 m², and the incorporation of earthquake protection measures. In addition, numerous changes of use involved making alterations to the supporting structure.
