Working with the general contractor Karl Steiner AG and the architects Atelier WW, we constructed the new SAS Radisson hotel, which has direct access to Zurich Airport. The building, which appears from the outside to have eleven storeys, is characterised by the projection of the upper storeys, which extend out over the forecourt, event space and inner courtyard. The cantilevered sections are supported via load-bearing walls, which also serve as partitions between the hotel rooms. The horizontal forces had to be transferred via the ceiling slabs to the building core. The building was founded on large-diameter piles drilled into the deep-lying moraine. The layers of soil above the moraine have a low bearing capacity and are subject to uplift.
