Two extensions are being added to the existing Wasgenring primary school complex in Basel. Tract A has a quadrangular floor plan with external dimensions of 23 by 35m. The approx. 16m high building has a basement, a first floor and three upper floors and houses the assembly hall, the day structure, classrooms and special rooms. The design takes into account the option of adding a fourth floor at a later date. Tract B has a floor plan angled by approx. 10° with external dimensions of 13 m by 39 m. The building height is around 4 m. The two-story building provides space for the special rooms. The Minergie Eco criteria are implemented in the materialization of both new buildings.
Reinforced concrete skeleton structures with flat slabs supported on walls and columns form the load-bearing systems of the buildings. In the area of the assembly hall in Tract A, the column loads from the floors above are supported by prestressed beams. The staircases are made of fair-faced concrete. The planning of the civil engineering took into account measures for tree protection.
