A new concrete slab roof in the shape of an ellipse was constructed to cover the entire traffic island. Four elliptical openings were created in the slabs to accommodate the existing plane trees. The two roofs are supported only by four concrete wall panels inside the small cylinders, and two differently dimensioned cylindrical structures made of steel. The thickness of the roof slabs varies between 45 and 55 cm, taking into account the comfortable spans and large projections of the roofs. The complex boundary conditions, resulting from the multitude of existing pipes and cables and the restricted space available, presented a particular challenge.
