Day of Architecture 2020

If, as a visitor to an airport building, you are asked to wear sturdy shoes and have a good basic condition, undoubtedly the occasion must be a special one …
On 27 and 28 June, the “Day of Architecture” will take place nationwide in Germany nationwide. This successful series of events invites visitors to “discover good architecture and vibrant urban spaces as a resource for our everyday lives”. The architectural tours by :mlzd in the Tempelhof Airport building – Tower THF are among the highlights at the programme of the Berlin Chamber of Architects. Since their joint competition success in 2016, Lüchinger+Meyer has been involved in the structural and façade planning on the side of the Berlin/Biel architects for this ambitious conversion project. By 2021 the western head building and the tower of Tempelhof Airport will be renovated in accordance with the preservation order and converted into a new information and event location with a viewing platform.

The guided tours start on 27 June at 14:00 and 16:00. Visitors can look forward to a vivid tour of the building backdrops and the reports of the architecture collective on the many challenges of the renovation project.
Due to this year’s special circumstances, only a limited number of participants will be admitted. Due to the great interest all tickets are already sold out. However, those interested without tickets can obtain information about the status of the work at the Visitor Centre. Here, a video screen will show current images from the construction site.
