An “eye-catcher for everyone” – laying of the foundation stone for Vogelsang settlement

The sparrows whistled it from the numerous parasols, and the foundation stone embedded in concrete together with the original “letter into the future” confirmed the seriousness of the project: the new settlement Vogelsang in Winterthur is now being built. More than 200 guests gathered on 12th of June for the laying of the foundation stone on the spacious construction site in inviting summer weather, including those involved in construction and planning, representatives of local politics and the city administration, as well as the future residents of the settlement. Of course, the civil engineers and designers from Lüchinger+Meyer did not miss the opportunity to meet the predicted community character of the settlement for the first time.

In his speech, Mayor Michael Künzle underlined the positive charisma of the new housing development in terms of urban housing policy. His good wishes for the success of the project were followed by the prophecy that the settlement would become “an eye-catcher for everyone travelling from Zurich to Winterthur”. In her speech, GWG President Doris Sutter followed this view from the outside with a look at the inner life of the settlement and presented the diverse forms of housing and additional offers. “Life in Vogelsang should be uncomplicated, relaxed and versatile”.
By 2021, the 15 multi-family dwellings are to be completed with a residential area and a broad complementary mix of uses. Lüchinger+Meyer has accompanied the project alongside Knapkiewicz & Fickert Architects since the joint competition success.
