MÉCA – The new cultural hotspot of Bordeaux

The inauguration ceremony of the magnificent new MÉCA cultural centre in Bordeaux will take place on June 28th. The artistic office of the new-Aquitaine region (OARA), literature, cinema and audio-visual (ALCA) and the Frac Nouvelle-Aquitaine (Regional Fund for Contemporary Arts) will be brought together under one roof, thereby effectively promoting the cultural appeal of the new-Aquitaine region.
Naturally, such an event does not take place silently, but is celebrated as a major cultural festival, in keeping with the building’s purpose. The inauguration ceremony in the evening will be attended by, among others, Regional President Alain Rousset, French Minister of Culture Franck Riester, architect Bjarke Ingels and the presidents of ALCA, Frac and OARA.

Following this, concerts and DJ sets at and in the MÉCA will keep the new cultural centre in the right “mood” until the early morning. On the following Saturday afternoon, Bordelais and guests are invited to visit the Frac’s exhibition rooms with free admission.
In addition to the architects from BIG and Freaks, the façade planners from Lüchinger+Meyer will also be in a festive mood. They accompanied the demanding project planning and execution of the concrete element facade for five years.
