The third project in Wettingen

We are particularly taken by the Kantonschule Wettingen and it is already a highlight for us. The new triple use sports hall is being used since 2018. The adaptation of “Alter Löwe” to its new use is in full swing – now we are able to commit ourselves for the third time to the structural development of the listed building of the former Cistercian monastery. Together with Waeber Dickenmann Partner Architekten, we were awarded first place in the procedure to select the future planer of the conversion and extension of the west wing of the cantonal school.
The building project takes into account the steady growth of the school. The project includes 12 new classrooms on the ground floor and the upper floor, as well as open workstations on the approximately 380 m2 attic. Special attention will be paid to the preservation of historical monuments. The monastery complex is listed in the Swiss Inventory of Cultural Assets of National Importance with the highest conservation objective.

Regarding the location, perimeter and cross-section, the building to be planned is based on the Hönggerhaus, which was demolished in 1883. The existing foundation wall will be preserved. Our work is to blend harmoniously into the existing ensemble and contribute to its upgrading. In the opinion of the jury, the design of the team around Waeber Dickenmann Partner Architekten best met the objectives of use and the challenging boundary conditions of the preservation of historical monuments. The bearing structure is a timber frame structure combined with timber-concrete composite ceilings.
