In the heart of Lischenmoos
The municipality of Muri near Bern is planning for its future development. The industrial zone to the west of Gümligen railway station will be transformed into a residential and commercial zone over the next few years. Lischenmoos is the largest and most important area to be developed in the municipality. The first steps were initiated with two parallel design competitions for the A1 and D building plots.
The team around Suter+Partner architects, which includes the structural engineers from Lüchinger+Meyer, won the design competition of HRS Real Estate AG for the D building plot “the heart of Lischenmoos”. The jury communicated that the winning project fully fulfilled the requirements defined in a master plan, creating an urban, family-friendly superstructure as the central and meeting point of the quarter. The jury was impressed by “the high-quality design idea, adapted to the location, which allows for a high quality of living and generates a generous square with plenty of free space”.
Two new buildings are proposed for realisation; a 6-storey longitudinal wooden building and a 4-storey building, which will provide approximately 45 apartments. A hybrid construction is proposed for the structure, as the buildings will be constructed on top of an existing underground car park. An existing mansion will be integrated into the ensemble. The jury praised the structural design in its report: “A massive ground floor redistributes the loads to the existing car park and allows for an economical timber construction from the 1st floor upwards. The load distribution ceiling above the ground floor is cleverly used to set the building slightly apart from the public square. The construction and materialisation form a good starting point for achieving the objectives in terms of sustainability”.
We are looking forward to the upcoming planning phase and – provided that the public vote is in favour of the project – the realisation of the superstructure until 2024.
